Hailing from the Cooley Mountains in County Louth, John McIntyre grew up immersed in the language, songs and traditional dance music of southwest Donegal - his father's homeplace. John has toured extensively worldwide, on many famous stages and festivals, has worked alongside many world-renowned producers and is now producing and recording in many genres. He performs in a duo with Zoë Conway, who have been described as “simply one of the best folk duos on the planet”. 

Ed Boyd, who permanently joined Lúnasa in 2012, is widely regarded as the finest acoustic guitarist on the European folk circuit. He is a founding member of the BBC Folk Award-winning group Flook, with whom he recorded four critically acclaimed albums, and has toured with many of the top UK folk acts, such as singers Cara Dillon and Kate Rusby, Michael McGoldrick, and Irish band Buille. 

The Summer School’s team of tutors is made up of internationally renowned performers with proven track records as teachers and educationalists. The primary means of teaching and learning will be ‘by ear’ with an emphasis in the less experienced classes of assisting pupils to develop oral/aural skills in addition to instrumental competency and developing core repertoire. All classes are designed for intermediate to advanced (minimum 2 years instrument experience) adults and children over 6 years of age except bodhrán, set dancing, sean nós dancing, traditional singing & sean nós singing which are suitable for beginners.
